Caye Caulker is a small Caribbean island off the coast of Belize. Tours run daily to The Great Blue Hole and The Belize Barrier Reef; as well as many other stunning destinations. The combination of slow island life and easy access to some of Belize’s most beautiful attractions makes it well worth the visit! Keep reading for our 5 favourite things to do In Caye Caulker and why you’ll love them too!
Scuba Dive The Belize Barrier Reef
The Belize Barrier Reef runs almost the entire length of the country off the Caribbean coast. Picture turquoise waters, islands with white sand beaches and a ton of marine life. The scuba diving in Belize is thought to be some of the best in the world with multiple scuba locations accessible from Caye Caulker. Belize Diving Services is an excellent local company; but there is no shortage of dive shops on the island. So shop around and head out for a few dives; you won’t regret it!

See The Great Blue Hole
The Great Blue Hole is a gigantic marine sinkhole that has become the trademark of Belize. Located near the center of a reef about 80 kilometers from the island; this is the number one thing to do in Caye Caulker. If you’d like to see The Great Blue Hole from above; you can take a helicopter or small plane tour from the island airport. We would highly recommend doing it this way if you want to have a view of the entire thing.
A more adventurous option is to scuba dive inside the Great Blue Hole. There are pros and cons to both options; but ultimately we decided against the diving because its actually more expensive, its really far(it takes about 2 hours to get there by boat) and you wont get that spectacular view only attainable from the sky. We booked through Tsunami Adventures who offer both options, competitive prices and good customer service.

Snorkel In Shark Ray Alley
I know you’re probably wondering.. what was our favourite activity during our time in Caye Caulker? To be honest this was one of the highlights of our entire trip to Belize so you don’t want to miss it! Shark Ray Alley is an area in the nature reserve where you are guaranteed to see nurse sharks—don’t worry, they don’t bite!—different kinds of rays, and usually sea turtles!
So how can you be guaranteed to see this sort of wildlife? In the past; this was a common place for fisherman to clean out their catch of the day before bringing them to the markets. The marine life got use to this food source and continues to live there to this day. Every time a boat pulls in the sharks and rays will surround it out of habit hoping for food. Although some tours still feed the marine life; it is strictly prohibited. We booked with Tsunami Adventures who respected the laws of the nature reserve and offered very small group sizes.

SIDE NOTE: I hope this seems like common sense but please don’t touch or chase these marine animals! Respect their space so that they can stay healthy and safe in this beautiful environment.
Relax on the Beach
If you’re craving a white sand beach and a never ending lineup of piña coladas… Caye Caulker has got you covered. The Lazy Lizard and Sip n Dip are the places to go if you’re in the mood for music, drinks and a crowd of potential new friends. They’ve usually got activities and sometimes even live bands! If you’re like us and tend to enjoy something a little more relaxed, head over to Iguanas Beach Bar. They’ve got a cozy beachfront setup where you can enjoy the facilities and full bar all day long; even if you’re not a guest at the inn.

Take a Yoga Class
RandOM Yoga offers excellent English yoga classes. They are located on the third floor of Namaste Cafe and classes are completely by donation. As of February 2019 classes run daily at 8 AM and 10 AM. They also offer a 4:30 PM class on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Make sure to stop at the cafe for a smoothie or sandwich on your way out. You’ll be glad you did!
