Madeira is an unbelievably stunning island off the southwest coast of Portugal. known for its volcanic beaches, rugged mountainous interior, and warm climate, it was our favorite part of the country! If madeira is on your travel agenda—and I think it should be!—there is only one group of hotels that I would recommend making your home base. With a total of 6 unique properties in stunning locations around the island, Savoy signature really does offer something perfectly suited for everyone.
David and I had the pleasure of calling two different Savoy properties home during our time in Madeira. From the incredible ocean views to the best buffet breakfasts we have ever had, we were completely blown away! Every staff member we encountered went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable.
The rooms were spacious, the amenities were luxurious, and each property boasts multiple pools. Yep, you read that right! Keep reading for all the reasons we loved our time with Savoy Signature and why we think you will love them too.

The Hotels
Savoy Signature has a total of 6 properties on the island of Madeira and not one of them is the same. They did a fantastic job of diversifying each location and creating a completely different story for each of these astounding resorts.
While the décor, the atmosphere, and the food are all diverse, you can count on the same excellent quality and delightful small details that make a huge difference. While I will only be diving deeper into the properties that we stayed at, I truly don’t think you can go wrong with any of these Savoy Signature Hotels.

The Locations
NEXT
NEXT Hotel is located in Madeira’s largest city, Funchal. In terms of exploring this lively city, NEXT is impeccably situated. It is within walking distance to downtown but also far enough away to enjoy a quiet evening in. This hotel is specifically geared towards a younger crowd of digital nomads with a heavy focus on technology and a contemporary atmosphere. I don’t know that we have ever felt so at home in another country!
The landscape and architecture at NEXT are remarkably one of a kind. The rooftop pool and tiered green terraces along with the sleek white curves give the building a fun, modern twist. The property-wide surround sound speakers made exploring the hotel lively and upbeat. The rooftop pool even has an underwater sound system!

Saccharum
The Saccharum property is on the southwest side of the island in an area called Calheta. It is quieter and more laid back than Funchal with sensational ocean views and a great mix of beach and adventure. We spent our mornings hiking to waterfalls or exploring the Levada walks and our afternoons basking in the sun and swimming in the ocean. It was absolutely perfect.
The Saccharum is sleek, luxurious, and romantic with small details that will take your experience to a whole new level. From the exclusive ocean pool to the infinity pool, garden, and miradouro (viewpoint) on the roof, this property offers some unparalleled amenities that you are going to love!

The Rooms
NEXT
As we touched on earlier, NEXT was actually designed with digital creators in mind which is something that David and I have never experienced before. The rooms were beautiful and modern with a high-tech design. This made it extremely easy to balance getting some work done with unwinding and recharging after our days of exploring and creating content.

Our room was equipped with a cozy king-sized bed, a wardrobe area, a safe, a mini-fridge, a television, air conditioning, and ample space to spread out with our laptops when needed. The bathroom was roomy, immaculate, and well-stocked with anything we might need during our stay. On top of all of that, we had a spectacular view of the ocean and the coastline from our balcony.

Saccharum
Like NEXT, the rooms at Saccharum were profoundly impressive. The focus on luxury was apparent in every aspect of the hotel. The double sink, the large wardrobe, and the glass-enclosed rainfall shower blew us away immediately. The welcome drinks and plate of fresh local fruit were another nice touch.

The calming decor, extravagant robes, and the fact that you could lay in bed while gazing out at the ocean were just a few of the things that made us feel pampered during our time at Saccharum. Not to mention the plush king-sized bed and the glorious balcony!

The Food
NEXT
The food at NEXT was absolutely delicious! We started every morning with a huge buffet breakfast including fruit, yogurt, cereal, eggs, roasted veggies, sausage, bacon, cheese, pastries, and several other dishes. On top of that, the Recharge Bar & Restaurant offers exotic dishes and ocean views. We ate here for lunch, dinner, and afternoon snacks and were never disappointed!

Saccharum
Saccharum’s breakfast buffet was something we looked forward to every single day! The massive buffet included fruit, yogurt, eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, potatoes, vegetable dishes, seafood, salads, pastries, desserts, and an omelet bar. It’s no surprise that the buffet dinner in the same dining area was just as diverse and drool-worthy.
The staff were all extremely friendly and accommodating. They even had the head chef walk around with me to point out all of the dairy-free dishes I could eat! Best buffet we have ever been to, hands down.

The Pools
NEXT
It’s tough to say which pool area we enjoyed more during our time at NEXT. The rooftop pool was beautiful and quiet with great views and fantastic drinks. We spent a lot of time unwinding there after days full of adventure. The pool by the ocean was larger, family-friendly, and has access to the ocean! The comfy day beds and adjacent restaurant made it a great place for a pool day.

Saccharum
Speaking of luxury, Saccharum actually has three stunning pools on their property, each with its own unique feel. The first, and our personal favorite, is the rooftop infinity pool which offered ample lounging space and serene views overlooking the ocean. The second pool is indoors, located on the 7th floor, and is a great place to go to get out of the sun.
The last pool is adults only and located on the 2nd-floor balcony, near the buffet restaurant. On that, Saccharum also has a man-made ocean pool! This was our preferred place to relax seaside, go for an ocean swim in the bay, and enjoy a drink at the bar.
