Mürren, a tiny, car-free village perched high in the Swiss Alps, is one of the most breathtaking places we have ever seen. Right in the heart of it all sits the recently restored Mürren Palace Hotel. Come with us to explore a basecamp for adventure, a sanctuary for recovery, and quite possibly the best hotel bathtub view in the world.
There’s something about waking up to the sight of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau that instantly slows time. Perched on a ridge above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, the Mürren Palace is a hotel you can’t miss in Switzerland.
Originally opened in the 1800s, the hotel recently underwent a complete renovation, and thankfully, it hasn’t lost its character in the process. It still feels very “Mürren”—laid-back, ruggedly elegant, and, most importantly, deeply connected to the landscape. This alpine hotel strikes the right balance between cozy mountain lodge and refined boutique retreat.

When we arrived in early June, the mountains were waking up in full bloom—wildflowers carpeting the meadows, trails open to visitors, and the air crisp and fresh. Hiking season had just kicked into gear, and the timing couldn’t have been better. Days were long and sunny, and each afternoon ended with a well-earned visit to the spa (more on that in a bit).
The hotel sits slightly above the main village, giving it unobstructed panoramic views. If you’re here for the mountains (and who isn’t?), it’s tough to imagine a better home base.

The Mürren Palace isn’t just a place to sleep—it’s a place that becomes part of your adventure. It’s where you soak aching legs under stars. Where you start long days of hiking with a belly full of fresh food and finish them with a glass of wine and a view.
Inside the Senior Suite Luxe (a.k.a. The Dreamy Hot Tub Room)
We stayed in the Senior Suite Luxe with a private hot tub, and if I could bottle the feeling of sunset soaks here, I would. The mountains were glowing pink, and we were neck-deep in hot water, sipping wine and enjoying the view. Pure, ridiculous bliss.

The suite is spacious in a way you rarely find in Europe. It has a living area with a sofa and chairs (perfect for lounging or drying out gear), a comfortable king-sized bed with plush duvets, and large windows that flood the space with natural light. The decor is thoughtfully put together with clean lines, alpine textures and a spotlight on one of our favourite Swiss animals, the Ibex.
The hot tub, though, is the star. It sits on a private balcony that faces directly toward the peaks. We soaked at every possible hour: after hikes, under the stars, at sunrise. Each time, it felt like we were getting away with something—like we shouldn’t be allowed to enjoy this all to ourselves.

The bathroom deserves a shoutout, too. It was spacious, stocked with quality toiletries, and featured a spa-like rainfall shower. After long days outside, it became a place to decompress and relive our adventures.
A Mountain Base Like No Other
Location-wise, the Mürren Palace hits that sweet spot between remote and accessible. Mürren is car-free, so getting here involves a scenic train and cable car combo from Lauterbrunnen. It might sound like a hassle, but trust me—it’s part of the magic. By the time you step off the train and into the village, you’ve already been immersed in alpine magic and staggering views.

The hotel sits near the train station just above the village center, which means you’re close enough to wander down for groceries or a beer, but far enough up that your views are completely unobstructed. You can see down into the Lauterbrunnen Valley and across to the towering faces of the Jungfrau Massif. On clear days, we sat on the terrace and just stared.
If you’re into hiking, skiing, trail running, or wandering charming alpine towns with insane views, you’ll be in heaven. Trails start right from the hotel door, and the staff are happy to offer recommendations.
The Spa: Recovery Mode, Activated
We’re big fans of pushing our bodies during the day and then properly rewarding them in the evening, and the Palace Spa makes that very easy. It’s tucked into the hotel’s lower level but still gets plenty of light and those signature mountain views.

There’s a quiet luxury here: a peaceful stillness and everything dialled in just right. The Finnish sauna was one of our favourites, with ample space to spread out and relax. The herbal steam room smells like a pine forest. There’s even a cold plunge pool and infrared loungers!

There’s also a full menu of treatments and massages, which we didn’t try this time—but next visit? Count us in for a deep tissue session post-hike. With your stay, you also get complimentary access to the Alpine Sports Centre, which has an indoor pool, a fitness centre, and its own spa and whirlpool.
Mountain Meals, Done Right
One of our favourite parts of staying at the Mürren Palace was that we didn’t need to leave to eat well. Breakfast was included, and honestly, it was more than enough to fuel an entire hike. Think fresh bread, local cheeses, mountain yogurt, an omelette station, and tons of fresh fruit. Bonus: everything’s served in the main dining room, which has those dreamy panoramic windows. Eating with a view like that sets the tone for the whole day.

Dinner was a pleasant surprise too. The food is grounded in alpine traditions but elevated with Mediterranean flavors and modern touches. We loved the Irish Rib-Eye Steak, Trout from Sigriswil, Mürren Beef Carpaccio and Chocolate cake.

We also enjoyed the bistro-style Palace Corner, especially for post-hike beers and snacks. It’s more casual and has an outdoor terrace that’s prime for people-watching, mountain-gazing, or just sipping something cold in the sunshine.
We hope you enjoy your time in Mürren, Switzerland! As always, feel free to reach out with any questions or comment below with your thoughts on the Mürren Palace Hotel. We would love to hear from you!
