The Kananaskis Nordic Spa is located about 45 minutes West of Calgary and 1 hour East of Banff. This luxurious outdoor experience is the perfect way to relax and unwind in the mountains! The 360 degree alpine scenery provides a completely immersive experience. Keep reading for everything you need to know about visiting this magical place!
About The Spa
Kananaskis Nordic Spa has become a go-to “alpine sanctuary” of the Canadian Rockies and there is no question why! This stunning spa combines luxury with natural beauty and allows you to rejuvenate in a scenic environment.
The idea of this invigorating therapy cycle is to move through the hot, warm, and cold pools numerous times in a specific order. Along with these pools, you can also enjoy a massage, different saunas and steam rooms, as well as fantastic food and drinks from the Two Trees Bistro!
Please note that cameras and cell phones are not allowed inside the spa. We were here during a special event for local content creators, that allowed us to capture these images to share with you! While you’re here, take the opportunity to completely disconnect and relax without any distractions. You’ll be glad you did!
Hot. Warm. Cold. Rest. Repeat.

The Hot Pools
The hot pools are my personal favourite place to hang out, especially in the winter! They are here to bring up your body temperature and begin the restoration process. Let the heat melt away any thoughts you came in with and completely surrender to the relaxation process.

The Warm Pools
The warm pools are designed to be a peaceful place to indulge in a comfortable opportunity to rest. I imagine if I visited in the summer, this would have been my go to hang out spot because the mountain views from these pools are unreal! Spend some time cooling down while quietly connecting to nature and those around you.

The Cold Plunge Pool
The cold plunge pool is a beautiful and refreshing way to end each cycle at the Kananaskis Nordic Spa. It’s easy to be wary- especially right after you’re all roasty-toasty from the surrounding hot pools and saunas- but I promise you’ll be happy you did it! Jump in, count to ten, and embrace the cold water for as long as you can. The warm pools and saunas are waiting for you on the other side😉

Saunas and Steam Cabins
The Kananaskis Nordic Spa also offers a number of saunas and steam cabins for your enjoyment. We loved the traditional Russian-style banyan sauna. The smell of the cedar was incredibly relaxing and they give you the option of dry or wet heat. All you have to do is pour water on the built-in rock stove to make things steamy!
The steam cabin was another hit with the essential oil-infused steam filling the sleek and spacious steam cabin. If you’re up for it, you can tip the overhead plunge bucket and shower yourself in cold water!
Unfortunately for us, the exfoliation cabin was not open during our visit. However, after all the wonderful things we’ve heard about it, we’re dying to get back and experience it as soon as we can! This cabin takes inspiration from the Turkish Hammam Baths creating a full-body exfoliation steam room. Here you can gently scrub from head to toe with KNS signature oil-infused body salts.

Massage
The spa offers a variety of different massage options including relaxation, deep tissue, pre-natal, and a couples massage(not currently available due to COVID-19). Included in each massage is access to the entire spa and all the different pools. Reservations are required in advance for all massage services. You can book yours here!

Additional Amenities
Did you think we were done? Not quite yet! On top of all of that, the Nordic Spa also offers hammocks and fire cauldrons for your enjoyment. The hammocks are insulated allowing you to cocoon yourself and enjoy them even in cold temperatures. I found the fire area incredibly relaxing- just wrap yourself in your robe and take in a campfire with a view!

The Two Trees Bistro
The Two Trees Bistro has a number of wholesome, delicious meals that are best enjoyed with a glass of wine or a hot drink! You can actually visit this bistro in your robe or you can choose to change and rest in front of the fireplace or the windows overlooking the property.

The Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge
The lovely Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge is located right next door to the spa making it the perfect way to conclude your getaway! On top of wonderful dining options and beautiful rooms, this mountain lodge boasts the same great views and calming atmosphere as the Kananaskis Nordic Spa.

COVID-19 Protocols
The Kananaskis Nordic Spa has taken several precautions to help protect everyone during the current global pandemic. We felt incredibly safe during our visit. Everyone wore masks while inside, they have decreased their capacity and also broken the day up into a morning and afternoon session. For a complete list of the precautions they are taking to ensure the safety of the guests and the staff, click here.
