Interlaken is known as the adventure capital of Switzerland and one of the most picturesque places in the country. With its central location and endless activities at your doorstep, INTERLAKEN AND THE SURROUNDING AREA is a fantastic home base to consider for your trip. In this blog post, am excited to share our favourite hotel in the REGION and why I think you’ll love it, too!
This fall, David and I had the pleasure of kicking off our honeymoon at Hotel Salzano in Interlaken-Unterseen. This beautiful hotel, restaurant, and spa is family-run and one of a kind.
We enjoyed long, luxurious nights of sleep in the cozy rooms during our two-night stay. Our days were filled with hours of relaxing in the spa and mouth-watering meals in their top-rated restaurant.

We savoured our time here so much that we didn’t leave the property once during our entire stay!
We were lucky enough to get to know Sonja Salzano and her son, Fabian, who welcomed us graciously. Sonja and her husband, Patrizio, have owned Hotel Salzano since 1994 and are incredibly passionate about providing a wonderful and unique getaway for their guests.

They dreamt up each aspect of this marvellous property themselves. To this day, they still work 7 days a week to provide a phenomenal experience for their guests. When we gushed to Sonja about how welcoming and helpful her staff had been, she smiled and replied “we share our Salzano spirit with our staff so that they can share it with all of you.”

Our hotel should be more than a simple overnight accommodation. It should be a place of contemplation that pleasantly stimulates all five senses and gives our guests joy, well-being, relaxation and pleasure. Amidst the fresh mountain air, mysterious forests and clear lakes of the Bernese Oberland, you will find warm hospitality that puts your wishes and needs first.

The Rooms
Hotel Salzano has 31 accommodation options including everything from classic rooms to suites and apartments. We stayed in a “Natura Room” which was rustic, cozy and luxurious all at the same time.

We immediately felt at home with the wonderfully comfortable queen-sized bed, large wardrobe, modern bathroom, and stunning views from our balcony. Our room also offered amenities like free wifi, a kettle with tea and coffee, a mini fridge, a fan, and a smart TV.

You can tell as you walk through the property that the Salzano family has poured an immense amount of love and effort into every small detail. We were treated like family and enjoyed every second of our stay!

The Property
Hotel Salzano is located in Interlaken-Unterseen, Switzerland. The property is absolutely stunning boasting a garden, lounge chairs, a playground, and excellent views of the surrounding landscape. There is also a spa, a restaurant, and a sunset lounge onsite.

Our favourite part about the location was feeling secluded and out of town while still being close to restaurants, shops, and a ton of activities. We felt simultaneously immersed in the Swiss countryside and like we had the alps at our fingertips. It was perfect!

The Spa
Included with your stay, each guest receives complimentary access to the Salzano Spa. Open daily from 2 PM to 9:30 PM, this was a true highlight of our stay. In Canada, spas like this are uncommon, and it’s even rarer to have unlimited access during your stay.
Obviously, David and I visited this tranquil area daily to take full advantage of it.

Within the spa, there are 4 unique saunas, 5 adventure showers, and a relaxation room with a killer view and a fireplace. We spent hours going between the hot and cold areas, finding complete serenity as we did so.

Each sauna had a different theme and temperature, with our favourites being the Panorama Sauna and The Brechelbath Sauna. We also took full advantage of the outdoor showers which offered magnificent star views after dark.

The Restaurant
Salzano Restaurant served the best food we have had in Switzerland so far! Many of the ingredients are local and some are even grown in their garden. As a guest, you have complimentary access to the fantastic buffet breakfast. Once you’ve dished up, make sure to sit on the balcony if it’s a nice morning for breathtaking views of the valley.
The dinner menu is absolutely divine so don’t forget to make a reservation! Salzano Restaurant won the Best of Swiss Gastro Award in the Fine Dining 2019 category and there is no question why. Each dish was absolutely incredible and beautifully presented.

When we visited, the Natural experience cuisine was closed. If it happens to be open while you visit, however, make sure to try it! When we spoke to Sonja about it, her passion was infectious.
This concept for the kitchen philosophy was in the mind of Sonja Salzano more than 25 years ago. She wanted to create a menu combining local plants, trees, and herbs to make a dining experience unlike anywhere else in the country.

We hope you enjoy your time in Switzerland! Please feel free to contact us with any questions or comment below with your thoughts on this stunning hotel. We would love to hear from you.
