Grindelwald is one of those mountain towns that instantly makes you want to stay a little longer. The Towering peaks, winding trails, and crisp alpine air are an open invitation to explore. Tucked in the heart of it all is a stay that truly stands out, combining mountain adventure with laid-back comfort in a way that feels effortless.
While there are plenty of places to stay in Grindelwald, Grindellodge by The Glacier is something different. This cozy mountain base feels just as thoughtful as it is adventurous—a place where modern comforts meet quiet, slow moments between the big days out.
If you’re looking for a basecamp that feels as memorable as the mountains you came for, you’re in the right spot.

From the outside, Grindellodge keeps things classic—sloped rooflines, wooden accents, and a front-row view of the Eiger’s impressive north face. Step inside, and the vibe shifts in the best way possible: soft lighting, pale pink tones, and subtle nods to Japanese minimalism throughout. The décor is warm, modern, and intentional, inspired by the climbers from Japan who first summited these mountains over a century ago.
Fresh off a renovation, the lodge now houses 20 thoughtfully designed rooms. It’s cozy and intimate, without feeling small. Whether you’re here for powder days or alpine hikes, everything about this place feels like an invitation to slow down and settle in.

The team here seems to truly enjoy helping guests make the most of their time in Grindelwald—whether that’s suggesting a hiking trail, arranging a spa session, or making sure your ramen cravings are sorted after a long day outside.
Inside the Yama Loft: Mountain Views & Room to Breathe
We stayed in the Yama Loft, a two-story suite that became our home base for a few days. With its generous layout, sweeping views, and two king-sized beds (plus two full bathrooms), it’s the perfect size for a group of three to four people with space for up to 6.

The loft is bright, airy, and beautifully styled with light wood finishes and minimalist details. Massive windows frame the surrounding peaks, and when you need to recharge, the cloud-soft beds, cozy lounge area, and modern bathrooms make it easy.

There’s also air conditioning, a Nespresso machine, a smart TV, and locally sourced bath products that feel a little more luxurious than your typical hotel fare. It’s practical without being basic, and stylish without being over-the-top.
Prime Location, Without the Fuss
Grindellodge is perched in a sweet spot—close enough to town that grabbing a coffee or hopping on a gondola takes minutes, yet just far enough removed to feel serene. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the Grindelwald Terminal, the gateway to the Jungfrau region’s vast network of trails, lifts, and mountaintop experiences.

We loved being able to walk out the door and hit the trail without much planning. Whether you’re chasing a sunrise hike, exploring the glacier canyon, or spending the day skiing, you’re never far from your next adventure.

Back at the lodge, there’s a charming outdoor terrace and a cozy common area with books and big windows that frame the Eiger like a living painting. The atmosphere is more “well-travelled friend’s chalet” than hotel lobby—and we mean that in the best way.
Private Spa Time = Peak Recovery
If you’re the kind of person who goes hard on the trails or slopes, the spa at Grindellodge is precisely what you need in your recovery toolkit. Instead of a shared space, they offer a private spa experience that can be booked for 90 minutes at a time. And let us tell you—it’s worth it.

The space includes a whirlpool, Finnish sauna, steam shower, and a relaxing waterbed lounge area. The lighting is soft, the atmosphere is calm, and you don’t have to share it with anyone else. It’s not a sprawling wellness center—and that’s the point. It’s intimate, restorative, and peaceful.
Umami: Comfort Food, Redefined
One of the most unexpected (and delightful) surprises at Grindellodge is Umami, the on-site Japanese restaurant. It’s cozy, calm, and run by a team that clearly puts care into every dish. Think mouth-watering ramen bowls, delicate sushi, flavorful rice dishes, and crispy tempura—all crafted with fresh ingredients and clean flavours.

After a day of hiking, the hearty ramen hit the spot. Rich broth, perfectly cooked noodles, and toppings that made each bowl feel like its own little adventure. The sushi was light and fresh, and the Mochi? To die for.

Your stay also includes a full buffet breakfast, which we would highly recommend enjoying outside on the patio! This includes a large selection of freshly baked bread, fruit, yogurt, eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and all the coffee your heart desires.

Grindellodge is more than just a place to sleep—it’s a place to reset, reconnect, and refuel. Whether your days are spent mountaineering, skiing, or simply strolling between cafés and mountain viewpoints, this lodge wraps you in a kind of peaceful energy that’s hard to put into words.
