FairHolme Campground
This lovely lakefront campground is one of the best campgrounds on Highway 101 in Northern Washington. The area gives you access to numerous hiking trails, kayak rental, and swimming in the lake. Plus, the Olympic Hot Springs trail head is only half an hour away! Here you can take an easy 5 mile round trip trek up to several natural hot pools. Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort is also within 30 minutes; giving you access to waterfall hikes, hot springs and a spa. Click here for more information about the campsite and hiking trails.

Kalaloch Campground
Kalaloch campground is considered one of Washington’s most unique campgrounds! Backing right onto the beach; you`ll have access to trails, tide pools, and you might even spot gray whales playing in the waves off the shore. Make sure to find Kalaloch Tree Root Cave during your stay. Driving 10 minutes north will bring you to Ruby Beach; a unique and stunning beach full of sea stacks and driftwood.

Pacific Beach State Park
This was one of my absolute favorite campgrounds on Highway 101! There are 18 tent sites that literally back onto the ocean. We walked for miles exploring the wide, beautiful beach and celebrated each sunset with a campfire overlooking the water.

Wright`s for Camping
This family run campsite is close to the main street and only a 5-7 minutes walk from the beach! Cannon Beach is a wonderful little coastal city famous for its long white sand beach and Oregon’s famous landmark, Haystack Rock. Plan a day to hike, surf, lay on the beach and explore the local shops and restaurants.

Cape Lookout Campground
Cape Lookout Campground has and unbelievable campground for an outstanding price! You can spend time in the water or hike up Cape Lookout Trail for jaw dropping views of the coastline. Whatever you do, make sure to drive 20 minutes north to check out the Tillamook Creamery! Take a tour, try some samples and have some of their famous ice cream on your way out; you wont be disappointed.

Sunset Bay Campground
One of most stunning campgrounds on Highway 101 is located in Coo`s Bay, Oregon. From there you have access to Sunset Bay State Park, Cape Arago State Park and Shore Acres State Park. If you`ve got some extra time, you could easily spend a few days checking out these three areas. Explore hiking trails, rugged cliffs, landscaped gardens, Cape Arago Lighthouse, and tons of beautiful beaches. 1 hour north of Sunset Bay Campground is the worlds first sand-boarding park; Sand Masters. Rent a board at the shop for $ 16 USD and try your luck on the sand dunes!

Mazama Village Campground
Although Crater Lake is 4 hours inland from Sunset Bay Campground, this bucket list destination is absolutely worth the detour! The stunning lake was formed by the volcanic collapse of Mount Mazama thousands of years ago. You can drive 33 miles along the rim of the crater which offers awe- inspiring views and access to numerous hiking trails. Another activity option is to take the ferry to Wizard Island near the western edge of the lake. Mazama Village Campground is 7 km from the rim of this spectacular lake, be sure to make a reservation early because the sites fill up quick!

Jedediah Smith Redwoods Campground
This wonderful campsite is located in the heart of the redwoods in Northern California. With over 20 miles of walking and hiking trails nearby, there is a lot to experience in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park.

Gold Bluffs Beach Campground
Explore hiking trails, go for a walk in Fern Canyon (where parts of Jurassic Park were filmed), or hang out on the beach! Gold Bluffs Beach Campground is an excellent place to stop after the redwoods for a change of scenery. 40 minutes south of this campground you can kayak and enjoy the beach at the Big Lagoon.

Kirby Cove Campground
Hands down the best place to stay in San Francisco and one of the top campgrounds on Highway 101! Located across the river from downtown, you will enjoy phenomenal views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city from the campground beach. Explore San Francisco, Sausalito, or take a day trip up to Napa or Sonoma for some wine tasting.

Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park Campground
This is an excellent campground within 30 minutes of Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park and beach, McWay Falls (an 80-foot waterfall from the cliffs onto the beach) and the Bixby Bridge. Make sure to stop in Monterey, Carmel-by-the-Sea, and the famous 17 mile drive on your way!

Sycamore Canyon Campground
Sycamore Canyon Campground in Point Mugu State Park is close to the beach with lots of trees and bushes for added privacy. Unlike most campgrounds on Highway 101, the gate is locked at 10 PM and opens at 8 AM so keep that in mind when planning your arrival. From here you can go skydiving with Sky Dive California Coastal or check out Santa Monica Peir and Venice Beach.

San Clemente State Beach Campground
A great campground close to the beach, surfing, and the shopping pier. Being only 15 minutes down the road from Dana Point you will have access to tons of activities. Try surfing, explore the shops and marina, or go hiking in Dana Point Headlands Conservation Area. From the marina you can sail to Catalina Island or hop on Captain Dave’s Dolphin & Whale Watching Safari.

La Jolla B&B Inn
Okay so its not a campsite, but why not treat yourself for the last stop of your road trip? The La Jolla B&B Inn is an amazing place to stay with a three course breakfast just one block from the ocean. It is a little pricey but absolutely worth the money for a relaxing, romantic couple of days. From here, you have access to La Jolla, San Diego, Temecula Wine Country, and Del Mar!
