Pokhara is a popular city located along the shores of Phewa Lake in central Nepal. Adventure-seeking travellers will fall in love with the local charm and enthusiasm for the outdoors. Surrounded by excellent trekking, white water rafting, paragliding and so much more; there is no shortage of adrenaline-filled activities to get your heart pumping!
Paraglide Through The Clouds
Did you know that Nepal is one of the best places in the world to try Paragliding? The constant thermals and beautiful scenery make this one of the most popular things to do in Pokhara. While there are numerous paragliding companies; we chose to go with Flying Buddha because of their excellent safety rating and top reviews.
The entire experience was absolutely breathtaking and we felt very safe and confident in our guides. From pick up to drop off it took about 2.5 hours and cost 8000 rupees ($70 USD) per person including photos and videos.

Go White Water Rafting
Nepal is known for its white water rafting and many of these areas are accessible from Pokhara. The rapids are class II to class IV and the scenic river valleys will leave you in awe. Depending on your time and adventure level; you can choose anything from half a day to a 10 or 11 day trip. We took a half day tour throughย Rapidrunner Expeditionsย and had an incredible time! The rapids are at their peak during the months ofย September to early December and March to June.

Trek Through The Himalayas
Some of the best treks in Nepal are found near Pokhara! Highlights include The Annapurna Circuit, Annapurna Base Camp, and Poon Hill. These treks range from 3 days to over 20 days and you can hike on your own or with a tour group. If you plan to do a longer trek like Annapurna Circuit or Base Camp for the first time; we would recommend hiring a guide and/or a porter. Because of the altitude and physical excursion of these treks; it can be unsafe to travel alone. We chose The Annapurna Circuit with Intrepid Travel and had an absolutely fantastic experience!

Visit The World Peace Pagoda
The World Peace Pagoda (Shanti Stupa) is absolutely stunning and full of history. This Buddhist monument exhibits a serine atmosphere and a panoramic view of Pokhara, Phewa Lake, and the mountains! You can get a local taxi from Pokhara for around $15 USD round trip.

Canoe on Phewa Lake
The colourful canoes on Phewa Lake have become the trademark image of Pokhara. For only a few dollars you can walk down to the shore and rent a canoe by the hour. There are many coves to explore as you paddle around and enjoy the scenery! If possible; be there at sunrise or sunset for some spectacular photos.

Take a Helicopter Ride To Annapurna Base Camp
Wanting to experience base camp without the time or desire to trek for 7-12 days? No problem! You can take a half day helicopter tour from the airport in Pokhara right to Annapurna Base Camp. While it is relatively costly (around $500 USD per person); it’s cheaper and far less physically demanding than the trek. The views are outstanding and it provides you with a must have Himalayan Mountain experience.
